How Trip Detection Works

Tripix turns your photos into a timeline of places you’ve been — and the travel achievements you’ve earned along the way.

Step 1

Photos Are Analysed

We scan the metadata in your photos — including the location and time — to understand where and when they were taken.

Step 2

Locations Are Identified

Coordinates from your photos are translated into real-world places, from countries to cities and even smaller locations.

Step 3

Trips Are Identified

Each location is compared against your home location, using your selected sensitivity level to determine whether it’s part of everyday life or a trip.

Step 4

Trips Are Created

Photos taken away from home are grouped by time and location into trips, creating a clear picture of your journeys.

Step 5

Trips Are Confirmed

Before anything is finalised, you’ll be asked to review and confirm your trips — so everything is accurate and exactly as you expect.

Step 6

Insights Are Generated

Once confirmed, your trips are transformed into insights and achievements — from countries visited to distance travelled, and more.

Accuracy & Limitations

Trip detection works best when your photos include location data.

Some trips may be incomplete or missing if:

  • Location services were turned off
  • Photos were edited or imported
  • Images were shared via apps like WhatsApp
  • Older photos don’t contain location metadata

If some of your photos are missing location data, we’ll group them into a dedicated album so you can easily update them. Once updated, simply re-scan your library to include them in your travel history.

Privacy

Your Privacy Matters

All processing happens entirely on your device — your data never leaves it.

We don’t track your location. We only use information that already exists within your photos.
